[ which means that between ten and fifteen minutes later, she comes in without knocking. is he in bed? because if he is, she's just gonna wordlessly head over and slide under the blankets with him, fully clothed. ]
[ He's always in bed. Or lazing about in some fashion on it. So, when she does that, he kind of glances at the device he still has in his hand before dropping it somewhere off to the side and turning over to look at her. Bells thinks about touching her but keeps everything to himself for now. ]
Do I still get to stay if I don't? [ she sounds equal parts tired and defeated. talking is not why she came. the way he squeezed her hand and slipped his arm around her shoulders in the gardens earlier is why she came. ]
[ He doesn't know her, not really, and mostly, it's just out of curiosity that has him asking that question. Instead, he gives the slightest nod of his head and offers her a smile. ]
I'm not gonna kick you out for not saying anything. Tell me if you want to. Or if you don't-- [ He reaches out to briefly touch the curve of her jaw. ] I'll listen either way.
You totally don't have to do this. The whole 'sweet' thing. [ she murmurs, though she sounds decently appreciative anyway. her hand slides up to catch his when it leaves her jaw, loosely intertwining their fingers. ] Like, seriously, I just... [ didn't want to be alone. but wow, way to sound lame - instead, she says: ] It was super frickin' cold. [ ....also lame. but less pathetic-lame so whatever. ]
Who says I'm being sweet? [ He's trying to tease her, of course, and it's not really a big thing for him to do it anyway. Bells squeezes her fingers. ] You were cold so you came all the way here to be with me, huh?
[ With that, Bells decidedly moves a little closer and pulls her in. ] Come here.
[ so she does, scooting a bit more into his personal space and sliding an arm around his middle. ] You can go back to sleep or whatever, [ sally's saying, as if he wouldn't totally do it with or without her permission if he wanted. ] I didn't mean to wake you up. [ not that she really tried too hard to avoid it. ]
[ Being close to someone else like this is more than good enough for him, wiggling just a little closer so he can try to see her face in case she hides it from him. ]
I wasn't sleeping. Don't really need to unless I really feel like it. [ But he gives her a smile. ] Maybe you should try though.
[ that... kind of throws a wrench in her plans, not gonna lie, because: ] That actually sounds super boring for you. [ if she just up and crashed on him. ]
Not that boring. [ He'd shrug if he could, but instead, he slides his hand up her side and plays with some of her hair. ] If I cared, I wouldn't have let you come over.
I didn't exactly give you a choice. [ but she's smiling a quiet smile, and she's making a little eye contact despite their proximity. ] But point taken.
Maybe, but it's not like I couldn't toss you out if I wanted to. [ Just another tease, and he tilts his head a little in an effort to get her to look him in the eye better. ] You sure you don't wanna talk about it?
[ Nope. He doesn't mind at all considering he only looks at her once before leaning in close enough to press his lips to the corner of her mouth. It's a soft thing, not really meaning much by it except for the silent okay i get it he doesn't think is actually necessary to say right now. ]
[ for a second she isn't gonna let him pull back, shifting her head to kiss him more directly... but that only does last for a second, because then she's breaking it and dropping her forehead to his and exhaling a sort of pathetic self-depreciating laugh through her nose. ]
Space is stupid, [ she decides, just barely above a whisper. this whole stupid mess is stupid. here just a month ago back in boston, she thought she was finally over the hill, thought that everything was finally done being ridiculous and convoluted, but nope. ]
[ The gentleness of it is pretty nice, and when she leans her forehead against his, Bells licks at his bottom lip and considers just kissing her again. But that's probably not why she really came here, so he continues to twist his fingers through her hair and gives a slight hum of agreement at that. ]
Pretty damn stupid. [ Bells lightly bumps their noses together. ] Sometimes it's better though. You'll get used to it.
[ and for a second, she just lets their mutual opinions hang in the little bit of air between them, her eyes closed but the forehead-to-forehead contact maintained. then: ]
It's a little better right now. [ by 'right now' she means 'in this proximity', because realistically, the situation still blows. ]
[ Maybe he laughs a little bit at that, wondering just how it could really be that much better. She doesn't know him, doesn't know the problems he'll cause if she gets too close. But that's... probably something he should think about some other time. ]
Yeah, I guess it so. [ And he slides his hand down her side to curl it around her waist. ] It kinda sucks, but I'd have never met all these people I'm glad I know if I hadn't come here.
